juices flow:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We are not new to chickens ... but we are building a new coop to go with the exterior on our house. We built a temporary coop for the chicks to stay in ... they had to come out of my basement! See the pictures I attached. We repurposed an old “little tikes” playhouse into the chicks temporary abode and the piles from an old trampoline for their run ... it is working well.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 6 chicks (they are now 10 -12 weeks)
(3) What breeds do you have?
Road Island Red, Araucana, Plymouth Rock.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Self reliance, our own eggs, they are so fun to watch
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hunting, politics, family history, cooking, old movies (mostly musicals), traveling
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I raised 6 children on our small 5 acre plot with a pony, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, a large garden and home educating. The kids are all grown now, except the last who is 17. We now have three cats, 6 chickens, no dogs (unless my oldest son is here with his mutt), my elderly mother and a lot of time to do what I want to do.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? We have used your site for ages. We love it!!
