I have a 2 year old welsummer hen who I saw mount a black star hen who is 1 year old. Never saw that before. Sidenote...she is the one who got broody last year so I went to Jax and bought 2 black star chicks and she took them under her wings and raised them. THE best way to introduce new members to the flock!!!!

I agree! Nothing is more fun than a broody hen. If you only want pullets, just put pullets under her, and sidestep the chancy business of hatching and roosters.
