Pics of my 4.5 week old Dominant Maran “pullet”?

I got this chick from Jinks Hatchery. It’s a cross between a BCM rooster and a Barred Rock hen. The Jenks website says the plumage is a “feather color which displays its BCM heritage” and is color sexable. If one ordered a pullet, assuming it would look like a BCM hen, and one has a weird hybrid bird,.... do I have a roo, transgender chick, or a pullet? Chick does seem to have awfully fluffy “breast/legs/butt” for a rooster, but I’m feeling thrown by the Barred Rock-ish pattern. No visible wattles yet, and no pinking on the comb, but, kinda looks like a roostery tail with that curious roostery stance, and some bullying/charging behavior observed.

I just want some darker eggs in my basket! This is BCM chick #3 (other two purchased as "pullets", turned out to be cockerels), please tell me this chick is going to be a hen finally!!!! (If not, if I buy BCM eggs in OR/WA, who wants to hatch them for me, I have no incubator. You can keep some of the chicks as payment/rent for incubator.)

Black copper Marans x barred Rock is a sex linked cross - pullets are black, cockerels are barred. It is not possible to missex this cross.

However the comb isn't showing any color yet. Do they have lean legged cuckoo Marans?

Baby was solid black with white spot on her head when I got her. The bars didn’t come in until she started to fully feather out, so a little stumped. See first pic of her at a week old, and a few various others.

The barring doesn’t show up until they start to get feathers so that’s why she was black as a chick. Also the dot on the head indicates that the chick has the barring gene so you can tell that way too even before they get real feathers. I believe in black sex link crosses, the dot means male and a female would just be solid black with no dot on the head.

I looked at their website. They sent you the correct "breed". Definitely a sex link, and definitely a cockerel.

Seems weird to me they would send a definite cockerel when a pullet was ordered? I mean, it’s not like vent sexing where you could accidentally get it wrong. Dot or no dot seems like a pretty clear difference to me.

I don't get it either. I thought maybe they sent a cuckoo Marans instead, but they don't have those. Just a handful of hybrids and most of those are sexlinks.

Gah. I'm about to give up. :-P This is the third maran "pullet" I've purchased this spring (from different places) that has turned out to be a cockerel. Apparently fate doesn't want me to have darker eggs in my basket. I did not think it would be this hard to add them! ;-)

At this point, I may have to poney up for an incubator and hatch my own BCM chicks unless I can find somone in the Portland OR metro/Oregon/Washington area who wants to hatch some for me.

It was during the start of COVID-19 shut in for our state (and the hatcheries, so...<shrugs> those were crazy times.) It looks like I may be raising someone a very sweet rooster then....seriously, he hops out of brooder every morning to say hi, and check out everything around, and he LIVES to take dust baths. The sweetest little "guy" apparently. ;-) Must be someone out there who really needs him.

Yeah, it’s definitely crazy times!!! So it’s possible they just got mixed up. But still, should be pretty easy to tell aha have you contacted them?

And awww I’m sorry 😭 he sounds so sweet!!!
