On a Tom T. Hall album I have, he sings of "Domineker" chickens. Exactly what is a Domineker chicken? Thanks for your input, I'm a "city" gal and don't have a clue.

I get a magazine called "Backyard Poultry" and read in there that back in the day, old farmers refered to their Dominiques as Dominekers. I guess it just faded out and now is just plain Dominiques.

And many old-timers just refer to any Barred Rock or Dominique chicken as a Dominicker. My dad does and I keep correcting him, LOL. They just don't see the difference, but they are really very different breeds. Just for your info, here's a great comparison of the two:

My grandma had dominkers when she was young, people called any chicken with barred feather patterens that.

Hope that helps.

I know this is an old thread, but I just have to add my thoughts.

I must be one of the "old timers" yall are talkin bout.

As MRNpoultry said about their grandmother, I believe any chicken with barred feather patterens is a Domineker

I never heard of Dominique till I started playin on this computer. I had heard of Barred Rock, but had no idea what one looked like.

Mule
