My girls loved the pumpkins this morning. I only got 6 pumpkins from the garden but at least the chickens enjoyed them.

We carved six jack-o-lanterns this year, and I put the guts in ziploc bags in the fridge so I can feed over the next few days.

I'll hit the pumkin patches in a few days and see what I can get at a steep discount too!

oh wow, I didn't think of feeding the pumpkins to the girls. Do they just eat the "guts" or can they eat the meat also. I'm so excited. Since our garden is out of season the girls have had slim pickens on the treats:)

My girls love pumpkin guts, but they eat the seeds whole. Is this ok?

They love the meat as well. They've really done a number on the jack-o-lanterns on the front porch. LOL!

I just cut them in half and let the chicks have at it. Even the young chicks a month old enjoyed. They ate around most of the seeds. The seeds are so soft, they will be fine.

We just bought a house 3 weeks ago and the previous owners gave us their flock. They also left a few spaghetti squash in the garden. Cut in half and left in their run, the chickens just hollowed them out to the rind! I'll have to remember to grow a big patch of them next year just for the birds.

The "meat" is the best part!

Be careful with throwing "used" jack-o-lanterns out there, though. They get moldy fast.

I only feed the leftovers from the carving, and I'll go back to the patch now that Haloween is over and get as many bargain pumpkins as I can. The small "pie" pumpkins keep very well; just cut them in half and put in the run.
