Double air cell?

I'm on day 9 and this strange "extra" air cell just appeared overnight in one of my eggs. It wasn't there before. Can someone explain to me what this could be? Is the egg okay? It's nothing like the other egg looks. Here's a photo I took:

Yes, but it came from just a few counties over so it was an overnight ship. The strange thing is, it wasn't there yesterday or any other days I candled! Where on earth did it come from? I hope for both our sakes the babies inside will still hatch normally.

I don`t think the distance matters if the package has been handled roughly it can happen. I found all sorts of weirdness going on in my 7 day eggs last night. The older lot go into lockdown on Sunday. I hope some hatch for us both.

Me too...I'm rooting for you. Does anyone else have any stories similar to this? The air cells were totally intact when I got them, but I let them settle overnight anyway. Other than this weird bubble, both eggs are developing just fine. This is a head-scratcher, for sure.

I have mine broad end up in a carton. That is meant to help them develop better. There are a lot of people had the same thing happen on here. Search for saddle shaped air cells, and hatching 101.

Oh, dear. I keep reading conflicting information about keeping them upright after settling. I've heard several reputable breeders tell me they have never had a single chick survive when kept upright, and several others say it's the only way to hatch eggs properly. I just don't know what to do.

I am going to take them out of the carton for lockdown, and place the dip in the airsac face up. That was Sally`s advice, and also cochins. Both say they have a good hatch rate like that. It is frightening. My first hatch was terrible, all the chick were shrink wrapped. I had to get one out, and that died after a day and a half. This will be my last attempt if it goes wrong. I can`t take the strain.

Oh, that sounds just awful...my heart goes out to you. :/ I'm feeling that same anxiety though, with only 2 eggs I know my chances aren't good. One last question, how do you turn the eggs when they're upright in a carton?

I have them tilted around 45 degrees, and just tilt them the other way as often as I think about it. 3 to 5 times a day is what everyone say. I probably manage that.
