Hello, I have a duckling that did not come out of the egg until 34 days of incubation. We were trying to incubate abandoned eggs we found in our yard. After 34 days they began to smell so I was instructed to discard them. I was curious as to what was inside so I decided to crack one open, and it had a live duckling inside. Now the duckling is healthy and active in every aspect except that he seems to have two slipped tendons. We currently have his feet spread and hobbled to hopefully fix this but it is starting to scare me that he hasn’t tried to walk. Does any one have any thoughts?? Could this be because he didn’t come out of the shell for so long?

How awesome that you did this! What breed of duck is it? What are you feeding it? What is the brooder like? How about pictures? Have you given him any B-complex?
It is just a mallard duckling, we accidentally scared the mom away while mowing. We waited all day for her to come back but when she didn’t we collected the eggs in a box and put a heat lamp on them at 100 degrees. I made sure to keep them humid and rotate them often. He is currently getting niacin supplemented to his diet of starter pellets, that I got from the local chicken hatchery. I have not tried b-complex. What exactly does that do?

It's just super good for them. It really helps with leg problems as well and any nutritional issues. do you have Tractor Supply? If so, it looks like this and you need to give 1ml over treats so they are sure that you get him/her to take all of it.

Thank you for the information! I really appreciate it.
