Someone is selling double york eggs to us. He only sells double yorkers and they are massive. How is this possible? Could they be fake? Please advise.

He may have a lot of brand new layers.
Are you sure they aren't duck eggs?

This link shows how an egg is made. The illustration may make what I'm going to say clearer.

Typically a hen releases one yolk a day to start the egg through her internal egg making factory. But sometimes she accidentally releases two yolks in a day. If those releases are separated in time she can lay two eggs in one day. But if she releases two yolks at the same time she can lay a double yolked egg. Some have laid eggs with more than two yolks but those are really rare.

Any hen can lay a double yolked egg but pullets just starting to lay and especially really old hens are more often the culprits. If you open those eggs and they have two yolks they are legitimate. If you candle them you should be able to see two yolks.

I don't know where he is getting those double yolked eggs. Commercial egg laying operations electronically candle and sort their eggs. Double yolkers will not fit in the standard cartons so they are separated out and sold separately, often to bakeries or pet food manufacturers. Perhaps he is getting his hands on some of those?
