So I went out to wish my ladies a good morning and most of them were out in the yard waiting impatiently to be set free. I poked my head in the coop to see if I had any eggs, even though I know most of them lay in the late morning early afternoon. I have 16 laying boxes for 25 hens, I'm not sure if it's enough but I've only had them two weeks and their coop is a work in progress. Two little ladies were nesting serenely. Except one looked strange. Because she had two heads! Three nesting, not two, and two of them in the same nest! One hen was just sitting on top of the other like it was the most normal thing in the world. I decided to give them some privacy. Eventually the one on top made a racket and got out, leaving the bottom one a little flat looking.
Is this normal chicken behavior? Is that just the favorite nest and they had scheduling issues? Do I need more boxes? If I come across this again I'm taking a picture because it was hilarious looking.
