What kind of seed mixes do you all feed your doves? My dove is on the kaytee dove food right now because she was a surprise and it was all I could get that short notice. I'd like to get her on a better with preferably without milo. She will eat the milo and refuse anything else if she has it available so I'd rather use it as a treat than in her food

emergency rations are always happening but once you get time to get the proper food or foods, you can go with that. in my case, i used pigeon feed from the local feed store. i don't know all the different names of seeds yet but The biggest difference that this seems to have is peas.

The kaytee dove food is really good.

You can also feed a parakeet (budgie) seed mix. Don't feed the ones for lovebirds as they have sunflower seeds in them that are too big for doves to eat.

Doves will always eat their favorite seeds first.

That is why you should portion out the days ration. Once it eats the favourite seeds first it will eventually get hungry and eat the rest. Don't refill the feeder until the dove has eaten most of the seeds.

Note... there will always be a few seeds left.. usually these are the ones the dove senses are stale or spoilt. You can throw them away.

Also feed crushed oyster shell bird grit for calcium and a mixed mineral grit for parakeets... so the doves gets all the other nutrients it needs.

Shes extremely stubborn... she'll go hours without eating before she gives in and eats the rest. except white/ yellow millet. She hates the millet. Once she gets to where her bowl is like 80% millet she won't eat at all. She'll eat the red millet in a finch mix i got her though. Also she cant eat the peas or corn so there's a lot of waste with that mix. Her beak just is just too small and she's nearly full sized now. Also she does get parakeet grit and oyster shell grit. I mix 50/50 then offer about 1/4tsp a day. She doesnt eat it all so i'm assuming I'm offering plenty

I've read that one. She flew into a window as a fledgeling but still needed formula and someone else took her from there and gave her to me so I finished raising her and they wanted me to release her but the was both people friendly and thought I was her mother at that point so I wasnt going to.then I learned they were invasive so that's definitely not happening lol. I live up in Washington and we don't like a huge amount of them around but there's probably about a pair for every neighborhood
