Hello! Please help! My dove was bleeding from an accident, and I need help as soon as possible!
He was under his cage and got startled, his leg got caught on the door and was bleeding. I believe I stopped the bleeding, and I really need some tips on helping him out! Right now he is laying down, and resting; I'm trying my best to keep him calm. Since it's a dove, and not a parrot, are there any different techniques on helping this guy? Please help me with him!

Separate him from the other doves and keep him warm. I once had a dove with a head injury which I let stay inside for a few days until the wound scabbed over and then healed. However it's difficult to recommend a remedy without knowing the exact nature of the injury. Would you be able to post a picture?

Best of luck :)

He's in a travel cage with blankets covering and inside. There's no perches or anything like that to make sure he isn't tempted to sit on and hurt his leg more. The injury has a wrap around it, to prevent more blood from coming out, but I believe it's done bleeding. He's hurt around the leg where it's attached to his body, if that makes sense sorry hehe.

If it's only a superficial leg injury (like a cut or scrape) I'd imagine it'd heal on it's own and be fine. A picture would help a lot too. I once found blood in my dove's cage and freaked out but the injury had already resolved itself by the time I figured out the cause (it accidentally pulled off half of one of it's nails). I have no idea how it happened but when I checked the nail it was no longer bleeding and the bird didn't seem phased at all, it's been over a month or two and there's no evidence that anything ever happened. Just keep an eye on the injured area and if it becomes discolored or starts to swell then you might have a more serious problem to deal with. Otherwise just keep the bird comfortable and try not to stress it out.

Try not to worry too much (I know that's hard to do), it sounds like something that will heal on its own and be fine.

Ok, it's actually looking a LOT better than when he first got this injury. I was talking to someone I know who has the experience of injured birds.
There is some antibacterial cream on it, and this is when I removed the bandage from a few days. It does not smell bad so far, and the wound is already scabbing over. He's eating, drinking and hopping around with just one foot. Is there any way to help this guy?

Wow! That injury is FAR more intense than I imagined. If you can afford to see a vet that works with birds then I'd do that, otherwise I wish you the best of luck. Perhaps a more experienced board member will help you out.

Good luck!

Eric

Yes, it is very bad. The closest vet I know with bird experience is about 2 or 3 hours away. If it gets worse, than I will definitely take him there.
I really appreciate your help. Thank you :)

Hello! Sorry about the wait..
He's looking great, and is doing great as well. The dove eats well, drinks and coos much more than he did at first. The wound is fully scabbed over and new skin is back. He even has his old feathers! Now I'm thinking if I should let him take a warm bath, or keep waiting until there's no scab. I could post pictures sometimes. Thank you very much for keeping him in thoughts, he's wonderful
