Started last summer with 4 Black Stars. Took them 6 months to start laying. Lost 1 when she strangled herself in a tight spot between the coop and the wall. Then 1 got a respiratory disease. Found her gasping for breath one day, she was dead the next, The 2 remaining hens thrived for a few months, each laying an egg each day. Now we lost a 3rd. They both stopped laying and 1 died last week; primary symptom was dull comb and diarrhea. Last one declining with the same diarrhea, comb still red. Two questions: Can I save the last one and how? If she dies, how do I go about disinfecting coop and run before I acquire more. Feeling a bit guilty. kept a clean coop and thought I was doing all the right things. Any advice would be appreciated.

No, wasn't aware of the need. I keep goats and worm them monthly. What wormer do I use?

If you're using Safeguard liquid goat wormer for your goats, use it for your chickens also. Administer it using a syringe without a needle. Dosage is 1/2cc given to each chicken orally undiluted. Repeat dosing again in 10 days. There's a 24 day withdrawal period from start to finish. Toss the eggs in the garbage or give them to your dogs.
