I have 5 in my flock - two drakes and three hens. The two drakes have a preference for Mildred, who prefers NOT to have the attention, and yet they seem to ignore the other ladies (who continually flirt with both drakes) in favor of her. Just curious as to whether this is unique to my ducks? Poor Mildred! In their prior duck run, she had a rock to stand on, where she spent most of her time, and they let her alone. They are now in a tractor during the day and Mildred does not have her rock. Thinking I need to move her too heavy to carry rock (or something similar) around with the tractor, so she can avoid so much attention!

This happens pretty often, from what I have read here. Get her a way to stay safely away from these guys. They could well do her in. Drakes are drakes. And yes, there are some darling boys out there. But then there are the rest of them.

Wish we could explain to them that they must stop some behaviors. I can dream big.

Mildred needs a soap box. Literally. It should be light enough to move around and tall enough for her to avoid being bothered.

Anyone in your family or neighborhood handy? Some one inch thick twelve inch wide boards screwed together to make a box the appropriate height - I would imagine the rock height - and she may be all set.

Oh wait. I see it in your signature - lol @ Sherman - that sounds like a name I'd give one of my boys. I have Stanley, Steve, Jagger, George, Gigi and Carlton for my named boys so far :P
