I sent my two drakes off to a friends after they hurt two of my four girls. My girls have enjoyed the summer without them. They have become much less shy. They use all the pools and hang together now. I was hoping the friend might let them stay with him forever. But, he only wants to keep one of my boys so tomorrow the other comes home. My question is, do you think they will all remember each other? It has been two and a half months. Do I need to introduce them very slowly, like a new duck, or can I just let him in with the girls?

Hello..I don't keep adult Ducks separated when introducing them unless they relentlessly fight. They will probably remember each other. Only issue could be is he tries to breed all the hens quickly. Chances are he will try his hardest to win over the ladies first.

They do remember! When I got to work this morning I heard drake sounds behind me as I was walking in the building. My Khaki drake was in the back of a pickup, in a cage, and had spotted me. When we got home I gave him about an hour locked alone in the pen where the girls could see him. He was so calm -just seemed happy to be home. Then, I let him out. He ignored the girls and went straight to the pools for lots of preening. They kept an eye on him (but pretended they weren’t).

Then, he just joined the group as if it was no big deal. All is well! At least for now.
