Hey all,
just wondering what a good drake to duck ratio would be? at the moment I have 3 Silver Appleyards ( 1 drake 2 ducks)
I have been told that lightweight breeds need a ratio of 1:5 but there isn't much info on Heavyweight breeds
Thanks

For heavy weight, one male per five females would be good, the more females the merrier of course. With heavyweight breeds its also important to provide deep enough swimming water so they can mate more easily than on land, the water acts as a cushion for the females. Considering what I've just said, It'd be a good idea to add some more females to your flock

Hi all - I have 7 females (pekin, muscovy and khaki's) and 1 muscovy drake. I am thinking about adding a few more hens. Is that too many for 1 drake? Mainly, I have them for egg production to eat, not raise babies. Thanks

I would say you can give 1 drake as many hens as you want to, he will be a happy boy. I would say no breeds that are very small though because Muscovy drakes are huge.
