I have 2 call cross drakes that are about average size, 3 calls ducks, an apricot average size duck and a crested duck. So 2 drakes to 5 ducks as we originally had 2 drakes to the one call duck. I hatched the call myself and had two ducklings at a week old off a friend to keep our company, both of which turned out to be drakes. I thought 5 ducks would be enough to stop them getting to and hurting them but they seem to be picking only on the calls. 2 of the calls have panicked so much they have escaped the pen and the other call hides behind the chicken coop which is in the pen so the drakes can't get to her. I had a phone call earlier that the two drakes had one of the calls on her back, one was on top of her trying to do the business and the other was pecking at her head. Why is this happening? I thought ducks went into pairs and waited until the eggs have been layed to find another pair, so there would have been enough ducks for that but the female calls seem terrified and try to find any way to get away from the drakes. The apricot and crested duck don't seem bothered at all and the drakes don't seem bothered by them either. Do I need to find a new home for one of my drakes or is this normal? This is the first season they have been laying. Will they hurt my lovely white calls? Thanks

They can even kill them especially if they get one in water and do this treatment. I think having 1 drake may calm things down a bit, sounds like these 2 are working together and causing all kinds of up set, poor girls no life for them. Keep the least aggressive.
