Drakes; odd one out.

First time poster so apologies if I'm posting on wrong thread. I only had a flock of 2; both Drakes. Unfortunately one died. The other poor fella was lonely so I went to get another Drake as company. Stupidly I ended up getting 2 more. Now the 2 new ones i got are paired off together leaving my original fella on his own. Do ye think that if I got 1 more they would likely pair off as buddies? I.e the new fella would naturally pair up with my original.Or could getting another one potentially make things worse? Its either that or give one of the new fellas away. Any help greatly appreciated

Yes, I think you should get him another drake. What breed is your first drake? You could always bring your first drake inside to be with you! But he needs a friend. Welcome to BYC!

Agree with this. Sometimes ducks get a long quickly, other times it can takes weeks or months for them to form a single flock. Give them time. Feeding treats can also help them bond and share a good experience together.

However, if you have the room and want another drake, I don't see a reason not to get one.

This is what I was thinking. Ducks are so social. It may just take time. I just integrated an adult female into my flock. It took a couple if weeks before she was tight with them, and even now, they aren't as inseparable as my original ducks are (I always say that I don't have 5 ducks - I have 1 big duck because they all move in one big clump).

But... there are often drakes who need rehoming, so why stop at 3?

If you bring home another drake maybe put your original and this new one together but separated from the other 2 with some kind of fencing so they can all still see each other but the new one and original bond with each other then in a week or less depending on what your seeing try them all together tossing some yummy treats out for them and see how they do.
