I looked into finding a new home for my two drakes but I have decided to build an extension onto the chicken pen, this way they can still see each other but the boys cannot get to the hens to try and mate them. They are only around 1 year old, so at least it gives them chance to calm down and if thing really don't improve with them attacking me, maybe next year they will have to go to a nice new home.

What do you all think?

Should they calm down or will they get worse each year during mating season?

Does anyone know how long Aylesbury ducks live for?

I love your approach!

I have noticed my all-girl flock has changed some over two years. They are more sedate now, and a little more independent, but still friendly, sweet and cooperative. I don't know about Aylesburies, though they fascinate me. Ducks can live over ten years, but that is a generalization, I know.

There is someone I know with a big flock of ducks and geese, and she has a drake pen, I think of it as the boys' club, and that may be what she calls it. The guys seem very happy there. Plenty of company, no pressure to demonstrate their drakehood.
