Ok, so I have a few eggs on Day 18 today..they are RIR and RIR roo over EE hens..they are from my own birds, and we're just put in the bator as my first run of the season..
I do a sort of dry incubation, I don't bother with humidity until lock down other than an occasional misting of the eggs with very warm distilled water. (Those are the spots on the brown egg, not seepy spots)..
However, if you notice the last 2 markings on each egg...
the brown eggs cell is growing a quarter inch each day..the greens/blues barely at all.. all were moved from the incu to hatcher this morning, all have had the exact same conditions since before being laid..
This is my first attempt at hatching these girls eggs..very curious to see if anyone thinks like me and thinks it's the difference in color? ? I know the green are much harder to see through, so that leads me to think that maybe the shell is thicker on these? I know that them being hard to see through is bc pigment is throughout egg and not just on the outside in these ..
I dunno, any help appreciated. . I'm hoping they play a little catch up in the next 48 hours, but really wanted to hear the BYC community's thoughts.

I think the olive green on back right is a late quitter but didn't want to chuck her out just in case.. and wanted to add just for clarification. .I don't start misting until about day 14, depending on RH in my bathroom that I have incubators set up in, what air cells look like, etc..

It's usually just a difference in shell thickness and porousity. Often they will even out by lockdown. Before hatch the air cell is drawn down more toward the chick so usually they fair just fine if the air cell is anywhere in the vicinity of being big enough. They also increase after lockdown as well.

Honestly, no clue...I read it in an article a few years ago, had great results with that hatch so just continued with it..the article was a link off of an article about dry incubation. Something about hens getting off the nest early in morning when dew would cover their feathers and then return to the nest with wet bellies..

Ok, that's a new one for me. I've heard the theory with ducks going for a swim and coming back wet to lay on eggs, but never in regards to chickens.

Lol, I've never incubated duck, although I would love to..but the misting works..or maybe it just doesn't hurt..not really sure, but I have pretty good hatches, even out of shipped eggs so sticking to what works..I know my luck..if I change one thing, I'll ruin my hatches..
