I have silkies hatching now using dry hatch method. Problem is, I usually add water on Day 18 adding AM and PM to stay around 50%-55%. Sunday 5pm I locked down and increased to 50%. By morning it was down to 18%. Added water back up to 45-50%. First one hatched yesterday, Day 20 around 5pm with humidity back down to 16-18%. Added water and increased back to 50%. 3 more hatched by this AM and humidity down again. Temp was steady at 99.5-100.1 until today. Temp has dropped to 99.0 ...and I have 4 more eggs yet to hatch.

Last several hatches I did not lose temp and humidity did not drop drastically after hatching started. All 6 hatched within 24hrs of each other on day 20-21 last 2 hatches.

Incubator is in my walk in closet on a low shelf b/c it’s the only room without an air vent so the temp is consistent b/c I keep the door closed at all times. I also have it sitting on a towel with it partly wrapped on the bottom to help hold temp.

I can’t figure out what’s going on this time and how to make sure the other 4 hatch. All 8 were candled last week and were progressing perfectly.

Ideas?
Suggestions?

What kind if incubator do you have and is it a still air incubator or circulated air. Are more vents open than usual or does the incubator have a crack that maybe is not very noticable? If possible, you could try closing a vent to see if that helps. I had this same problem with one hatch with my still air styrofoam incubator and was frantically trying to get it stabilized. I tried every suggestion I could find and nothing was working! Then I discovered that the lid was not seating securely as it was supposed to. As soon as I got it seated correctly, no more instability. I sure felt daft! :lau
