I have 5 20 week old Rio Grande turkeys. I have raised them since day one with my chickens and I actually think that they think they ARE chickens.
About 5 days or so ago I noticed one of them was looking quite droopy. She was sitting by herself and not foraging with the others and seemed kind of hunched up. She was not eating like normal but I would see her go for meal worms or take a peck at the feeder from time to time.
On Friday She fell off of the roost trying to get down and had issues getting up. When she did get up I noticed a TON of yellow liquidy poop under the roost where she had been. When I picked her up she felt like skin and bones. She is also losing TONS Of feathers. I put her in a large metal dog crate and got on google.
Well, I think she has blackhead.
I did a TON of research and immediately ordered Fish Zole which came in today. I also ordered Acidified Copper Sulfate but it has not come in yet. Today I decided that since she had not eaten in DAYS I was going to tube feed her. I bought a two ounce syringe from tractor supply and found a length of tubing to fit the end of it. I mixed up greek yogurt, turkey starter, apple cider vinegar, some cayenne pepper and some egg yolk. It totaled about an ounce of feed. I also mixed in a crushed fish zole tablet. I dropped the tube down her throat into her crop and slowly pushed the feed through it.
I plan on doing this three times a day for five days or until she starts to feel better and eat on her own.
She will only get the fish zole for the morning feeding but the other two will be medication free.
Is there anything else I can do for her to make her feel better?? I really don't want to lose her.
Thank you.
