Hi. I’m in the process of integrating my 6 year old hens with my 10 week old chicks. The old hens have half the coop- the one on the chicken door side so they have free access to the run.

The 10 week girls are on the side with the people door. So, a couple days ago I rigged up a bit of a run for the littles off of the people door. Apparently it wasn’t a very good run as all 5 managed to get out and couldn’t get back in.

Today was the one day I worked away from the home, so I couldn’t check on them regularly. My husband and daughter had both reported them doing fine.

It is raining buckets and I went out to close up the door, assuming that they’d be back in the coop by now - late dusk.
Well, they all were outside my makeshift run in the rain - soaking wet. I was able to grab one of them and put her in the coop and then I herded the others into the coop.

They’re not cuddly chicks and would likely not appreciate me going out and trying to dry them off with a towel. If I tried, there would be a lot of screaming and flying around blindly.

Do I have to worry about them being wet?

The temp is 59 degrees F. It may go down to 55 degrees.
