Our beautiful little Poot at 8 weeks old was gasping and seemed to be struggling to breathe, after a trip to the vets it seemed she had a slight infection which was treated and also got broad spectrum wormers. Yesterday though was the ultimate breakthrough it would seem. She didn't seem to be drinking, so I tried to get her to take water from a syringe, and she wouldn't swallow which was extremely worrying. Then I suddenly noticed, there was something wrapped around her tongue! It was a small section of mealworm, like in a ring around her tongue!! The vet must have missed this too! We managed to get it off with a tiny hook thing the other half had in his toolbox, she is now a different chicken, much happier, eating drinking, running around like the little nutter she is, she seems better still today, although is still gaping a little but only slightly.
Has anyone else ever experienced this with a mealworm?

It must be a freak accident. My birds go nuts for dried mealworms, gluttons and it's a wonder mine havnt choked on them. I guess I should give smaller portions. I'm glad Poot is back to normal.
She is still gasping shes much happier and stronger and stuffing her face now with chick crumb!
