I have several antibiotics but the only ones that are still good per "use by" date are cipro. and amoxicillin trihydrate....trying to help prevent infection in a peacock from some bad wounds per a peacock fight.
I "think" perhaps cephalexin may be a good drug of choice but sigh...I have none.
Any advice appreciated,
I think I can pull him through it ok if I stay on top of the situation and medicate correctly...he has some fairly deep gashes/spur wounds though. ( no, I don't have a vet I can take him to )
Topical treatment has been started (wounds cleansed, 3 x antibiotic oinment and granulex applied.
I know how to dose birds , just want to know if anyone can suggest the best ORAL antibiotic for this particular situation and the dosage needed for a full grown peacock.
Thanks !

Amoxicillin might be a good choice. Dose is 125 mg/kg twice a day for 7-10 days.
I think the Cipro dose is 20-40 mg/kg twice a day.

How much does your boy weigh? You need to weigh him before you treat him. :D

Thanks so much...will get that weight on him and start the amox. tomorrow.
He is average size though, prob. around 12 pounds.

So that would be 680 mg amoxicillin twice a day, or 110-220 mg Cipro twice a day.

I personally worry about creating drug resistance in diseases unless there already is an infection. I would apply one of these given in order of what I consider best to not as good. Raw honey(hard to get a hold of the real stuff unless at a farmers market), non pain relief antiseptic, Vaseline. may look ugly but works wonders.

Edited for poor English.
