Dry Beak Tip?

So, I have this new pet turkey, and I'm kind of in love with him... (her? who knows)
His name is Sandwich, hes 2 weeks old, and hes legit stolen my heart.

Onto the point - since i got him i noticed the tip of his beak was a bit off in color compared to the rest of his beak.
Now, 2 weeks post pickup, the tip of his beak has broken off a tiny bit, making the bottom mandible stick out a bit further... and the tip of the top mandible kind of looks dead? In the beginning, I thought this was maybe due to his egg tooth - ive never raised a turkey poult... but now, im starting to worry.

What do I do?

That is not normal. Beaks like fingernails are constantly growing. Make sure that whatever caused the damage is not continuing whether it is rubbing on something or ahything else.

You can try a light coating of neosporin. It should grow back.

thats just it... I have no idea what could have caused it, he eats normally, drinks normally, and its been this way ever since i got him at 1-2 days old, its just progressively getting worst i dont see him rubbing his beak on anything, hitting anything, unless it could be caused from hitting the bottom of his feed bowl while eating? Thats a stretch though...

If it was already like that before you got it, the original injury could have become contaminated with some form of bacteria that is eating away at the beak. That is why I suggested putting neosporin on it. Perhaps @casportpony has a better idea of what to use.

If it is some organism eating it, once that gets stopped, it should start growing back.

A quick Google shows that there is a virus that can eat beaks away. Unfortunately it is untreatable and can be passed to people. Hopefully that isn't what the cause is but just iin case, do not let the poult anywhere near your face and do not touch your face without washing your hands first after handling the poult.

Apparently theres a process here called debeaking? This is a royal palm turkey poult that came from a large hatchery, im waiting for an answer from them to see if thats what this is... again - ive never had a turkey, and 95% of my chickens are hatched here so i know nothing of this process... im going to get the neosporin tonight and try it... im fairly confident its not the beak and feather virus that google shows, but i wont lie, its still in the back of my mind!

Thank you! Hes a funny little guy who lives up to his funny name, he follows me like a dog, he sleeps in my lap, he's seriously my most favourite bird I've ever had.
