Dtake attack

I have 3 hens and 2 drakes, we have raised these since born, all together. This week one of my drakes has began to attack the other and keep him isolated from the rest of the flock. Is it so sad to see, if the hens go near the isolated drake the other will go over and isolate him again. Is this due to mating season? My ducks are 5 months old and I am a first time duck mom so any advice would be greatful.

I have tried to separate the mean drake but he becomes upset and distressed.

Your “mean” drake is showing excessive dominance and protectiveness due to your poor male to female ratio. My recommended ratio is 1 drake to 4 or 5 hens.

I’d keep the drake that the hens love most & rehome the other, or get at least 5 more hens..
