Today my geese and drake thought it would be a good idea to mate with my jersey giant hen and she died from shock after being held down by geese and raped by a drake.
and also while i was putting them away tonight they attempted to kill another hen. what is the best why to deal with my little sex offenders that used to all be friends. also the ducks and geese are at puberty so are frisky and aggressive.

I don't know if they are a goose and gander or two ganders but they are being more aggressive over the last week, they are 16 weeks old now.

The drake does not show any interest in the female duck yet he wants chicken for "dinner"

How do i separate the chickens form the ducks and geese for a few weeks while their hormones are in over drive?

Now i have 4 hens, 3 frisky roosters , 2 geese maybe ganders i hope not to males. and a drake and duck. I know to much testosterone

Why do people that never had livestock act like they are just a disposable animal. My nephew that is 12 took delight in watching the chicken die from shock and went to kick the geese but i yelled at him. i hold his mother what he did and her response is boys will be boys and he is just a kid.... really this is why there are so many sociopaths out there we are no longer allowed to whip a kid with a belt until they bleed out the ears when they need it. Know i have 1 less chicken and 2 geese that are now going to attack any kid they see because he doesn't know how to move slow around an animal that is instinctively hostile and protective of its yard.

also how do you report a 12 year old for a felony offense with out making everyone in my family hate me. he shot a blue jay and a eastern bluebird for sport when target shooting. I just dont want him growing up to be a sociopath and learn how the real world works.

? You don't need to add anything about your family issues. Maybe put this on another forum website. About your birds, if you don't like their hormonal behavior, get rid of them. You shouldn't have 4 hens running around with 3 roosters anyway. That ratio is awful. I have 27 hens and 2 roosters, and I still feel like i'm pushing it.

I agree that you have a testosterone overload. You need more girls or less boys. You are going to have to build a pen or run if you want to seperate them. There's no other way to make them stay apart besides rehoming the geese. I am no goose experts. Maybe someone here could help you sex them with pictures.

And that is waaaay beyond. "Boys will be boys." That is just plain scary and deeply disturbing. Maybe you should try and get some help for him before he graduates from blue birds...

Call your local Fish and Wildlife department or Wildlife and Parks. He committed a federal offense by killing those birds and needs to have the smack laid down on him one way or another for his cruel and awful behavior. If that was my child, he would be in for a world of punishment and a reality check to open his eyes to what he did.

And, yes, separate the geese and drake from the hens or they will kill again. Waterfowl actually have a "penis" structure that is rather long and forcibly enters the female, chickens are not designed for that type of thing so she may have died from ruptured internals. A horrible way to go.

If you don't have room for separating the geese/ducks/roosters stake 'em out. Use a soft rope, don't make it too tight, and tie it to their legs and tie the end to a tree. Make sure they have food & water, shelter if it rains or is hot or cold etc. 2 Roos to 4 hens is a very bad ratio. I had 3 Roos and 4 hens once, the hens weren't over mated but fighting did happen! either cull a roo of get some more hens. Also get more hen ducks, or don't have a drake. You can vent sex, -

Grab the bird
Flip it over
Brush away debris or poop around the vent
Spread the feathers away from the vent so you can see the skin.
Push the tail towards the head, so if it was walking it was in a poop mode... Lol, ya know when they lift up their tail 180 degrees and splotch out that lovely poo?
If its a girl, nothing will pop out, if boy, a penis will pop out.
You may need help, your not trying to push out the penis, but spread the skin so it pops out itself. Be careful not to injure them.
Start off using a known male, just so you know your doing it right. Try to do it a few times before doing it on an unknown waterfowl. You will absolutely need help with sexing full grown geese!

1 goose + 1 gander should be fine, IMO. 2 ganders will rape ducks, hens, pretty much everything.

Best of luck, and something is wrong with that boy! I'd report to the federal fish and game, I'm all for hunting but killing for target practice? No, that's why they make targets.

I am just getting started with birds and this was my first spring with ducks and geese. I had something very similar happen at my house. I had gotten 4 drakes that were all free ranging together. They wreaked havock on any females they could get close to.they even had some goes at the geese?! Before I knew it they had gang raped a couple of my favorite duck hens near to death. I separated everyone and sold the drakes....good riddance. Now I have one gander and 3 hens, 10 duck hens and 2 drakes. Everyone is happy now.

this is the problem with getting birds from a TSC the people there generally have no clue how to sex a bird. i wanted a buff orpington hen, black sexlink and a easter egger and got a RIR or maybe hes a new hampshie red , black sumatra and i think a mutt, all three are roosters. The geese are both africans one has a bigger knob yet the smaller one with a smaller knob is the most aggressive and will go ape **** if you pet it. I know the sex of the ducks because ducks are easy once they became adults just by voice.

How do you sex an adult goose with out them thinking your trying to kill them must animals hate being on their backs.

Do geese go all sleepy at night like chickens do? Maybe you could get them when they've settled in for the night. Don't forget to band 'em like with a blue zip tie on the L leg for male and a red for a female, so you don't have to re-do the whole experience.

Sometimes, protecting family 'peace' is not as important as the innocence or life of another human, who may or may not be family, but will certainly be the victim of an un-curbed criminal family member. My husband has always wished that his father and mother had turned in his aunts family for all the abuse that happened with his cousins. His male cousin only recently exited prison as felony child offender. More than likely, he'll be back in on the same charge again.

Best defense is a good offense with someone who enjoys violence in that way. Good luck, we'll be praying for you.

My geese were always as alert at night as they were in the day. Sometimes, they'd just stay awake and doodle around like normal. That tactic definitely won't work. My geese were my babies and only attacked me once at sexual maturity, so they were extremely easy to handle 99% of the time. When they acted aggressive and went after me one day, I just grabbed ahold of the neck a bit behind the head, held firmly but didn't squeeze, and kept my arm rigid so they couldn't bite me. Then, I just wrapped my arm around underneath their body and carried/restrained them that way. If you are not comfortable getting physical with them, you will need a friend to assist you in holding them, being careful not to compress their body, as that doesn't allow them to breathe and can kill them. Remember, they have very powerful legs and very sharp claws as well as a good bite, so be careful.
