I have one duck breeding question for you all..... I had been doing quite well at shows and people had been noticing me and my ducks until this weekend! This guy brought a pair of swedes that dwarfed them. Mined you that my are the weights that the standard puts out for them but this pair was huge! So I came up with this brilliant idea..... wonder if I took a couple of pekin hens and crossed them with my black drake then kept the drakes and put them over my blue hens.... do this a couple times and then get a good type of and color of swedes and get the size of the pekins. Because I'm not putting my ducks throught the dwarfing that those two put them through..... also is there an "all other variety" option in ducks because if I ever have to show agains those ducks I want to take my big black drake which is super correct all down to the white primaries.

I know absolute zilch about breeding, but even to me that seems like a lot of work...you could just buy a pair of large, show quality Swedish. I don't know if Holderreads sells Swedish ducks, but they sell show and breeder quality ducks.

Mine are really nice and good quality.... It's just that the other swedish breeders are breeding them like they are white rocks!!!! The bigger the better.... mine are in standard weights but these guys are becoming like the white rocks of the duck world

If you have been doing well with your ducks, why would you want to change them. Did this new person do better in the show than you? Just because they are bigger doesn't mean they are better, or does it?

They did do better they won Best of Breed, Best of Variety, Reserve of Breed, and Reserve of Breed.... I won 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th

Not to say yours aren't good quality but maybe the other person got theirs from a reputable breeder... Where did you acquire your stock from?

The winner of a show is the best duck on the day in the eyes of that particular judge... If you show again in a different place with a different judge up against the same birds - You may be the winner next time. Just my thoughts on it all..

no these were F2 swede pekin cross and a hatchery bird..... i've been breeding mine for a couple years to get them where they are.... I guess this is just a thread because I'm mad because I didn't win.... I just wanted to get input to see if this would be a good idea
