Duck can’t swallow, water won’t go down, comes out mouth and nose

@Stoney Meadow Maple
Again i’m so sorry about your duck. I was wondering if you decided to do a necropsy to see what was in there that was blocking her swallowing ?
Sometimes a duck can eat something like a popped balloon that fell down from the sky.
I didn’t, probably should have, I boxed her up nicely and gave her the Sam Mcgee treatment. The esophagus swollen shut leads me to be suspicious of something stinging. The others seem fine. They had been in their enclosure, there are only maple trees around, anything is possible, I had also just filled the feeder, could have been something.
I don’t know how I would have used the Benadryl unless I put it up
The vent and hoped for the best?

I’m so sorry again for your loss. Glad the others are doing well! I think maybe putting the syringe down the right side of her throat or even a tube like tube feeding might work if it’s oiled and we could get it to go in past the swelling but anyway, hopefully this doesn’t happen again to any of us .

I hadn’t really thought of intubation, you’re right, I have some small siphon hose from my beer making supplies, doesn’t help she was a runner, nothing like jumping right in! I appreciate the link for the benadryl dosage. Why not grape? We keep children’s Benadryl on hand, don’t know what flavor.
