So, I have a single duck egg in the incubator that I stole from my Muscovy duck that we found hiding a nest. She still has the other 7, I just wanted one to imprint to be a pet. The dad is a Khaki Campbell. I'm not sure exactly how far along the eggs are but I would guess about 31 or 32 days based on candling...So, this egg is concerning me. I've candled several times, and it just doesn't look quite right. Around the egg sac is kind of an orangey color rather than clear-ish with veins. I can see some veins, but not very distinct. However, the embryo does appear to be moving around some, and I float tested and was a low floater. The thing that really concerns me is, I found a little tiny bit of liquid on the air sac side of the shell that appeared to have oozed out. It's only happened once and isn't accumulating, and the egg doesn't stink. I have dealt with dead, rotten eggs before and this seems different. Can the embryo appear to be moving when dead? I've set the egg on the counter with the candler propped against it and the mass inside really seems to be independently moving around a bit. Help?
