My magpie female started laying a week ago. The first egg was a dark grey and they seemed to get become a lighter grey each day. Today the egg was partially grey and white. I’ve posted pictures of the dark and lighter greys but unfortunately did not take a picture of today’s egg. Is this normal? Thanks!

That is typical with ducks that lay black eggs. They start out black and slowly lighten as the season continues. You will even see it with other colored eggs as well. The black eggs are the most dramatic color change.

It is normal in Cayuga Duck breed. I don't know about Magpie but look at it like when you put a new cartridge in your Copy machine and the first few copies are messed up ink but every copy gets better and better.
