Hi there. I’ve hatched ducks and chicks for several years using the NR360. Fabulous machine, had great results in years past around 90-95% hatch rate with a full incubator.
This year has been very different. At the beginning of January I set a full incubator with 22 eggs, many were duds probably my fault due to not having them in water to mate every day. I think half of them were duds and we had maybe 11–12 that had developed by day 7. So I didn’t check them obsessively but by the two week mark nearly half quit early and we ended up getting 7 ducks out of that batch.
I’m now setting a second batch and already seeing similar issues, about half the eggs were duds and I’m seeing 40% death rate by the two week mark. Very disappointing.
A few points to note:
- these ducks are all less than a year old, some came as day olds from a hatchery and some were hatched from eggs bought online. The birds have all been very healthy
- feed is organic high quality grower broiler with calcium free choice so as not to harm the drakes.
-light is left on year round as their run is right outside our house so there is really no way around that but usually it goes off by 930pm and they wake with the sun
-Near as I can tell the NR360 is holding steady temps at 99.5 and humidity goes between 50-55, sometimes less and sometimes more but in that range.
Any advice or suggestions as to what could be causing this is greatly appreciated!
