duck egg laying

I have 6 ducks that were given to me because the owners didn't realize that they would get that big or that they were so messy...one person didn't even have any water for theres...lol...anyway....got 1 runner duck..male..2 pekins...n the others not sure...thinking 1 is mallard...so we were just down at the pondn my husband said look there is a duck egg in the water...not only did we find one but 9 eggs in the water...does anyone know why my ducks are laying there eggs in the water. ..shallow enough that I got them with a rake...TIA

Domestic ducks may lay their eggs just about anywhere. At the same time, some are really good about making a spot and laying there. I have a Buff who lays in a little nest she made. And two Runners who drop 'em where they stand.
