Hi duck people... Long time duck owner here, my family has been eating duck eggs from our small flock for 10 years, but I’ve never seen this before.

We’ve now had 2 eggs, that when cracked in a pan for our typical morning fried eggs, the white part cooks CLEAR, not white. I mean really, really, clear... each time I first assumed the pan wasn’t hot enough and the white just wasn’t cooking. But, even when the yolk is cooked solid, the white part has become a solid and hard cooked mass, but it is totally clear / transparent - like clear jello. Its very bizarre looking!

Any ideas? I’ve googled a little and only found that penguin egg whites cook up clear... and I’m pretty sure that I don’t have a rouge penguin in my flock! I have 8 female golden 300’s, one male, and 3 embden geese.

Thanks for any input!

A few questions?

  • How fresh are the eggs?
  • Any history of respiratory disease in your flock?
  • Are the egg whites runny or thick when you crack them open?
