I just picked up 9 call duck hatching eggs. Some of them are quite dirty. To wash or not to wash? I just put them in the incubator an hour ago and I smell the poo. Should I give them a hot water rinse? fine sand paper? leave them as is?

I have hatched chicken eggs, but they have never been dirty, and I have always let those ones go.

I think you'll get a number of differing responses to your question but, personally, I don't wash even dirty duck eggs, and haven't had a problem with bacterial infiltration to date. As I collect eggs, I try to gently wipe off any muck, but preserving the bloom is more important to me than the egg appearing clean. BTW, I think duck eggs have a characteristically "ducky" fragrance, especially when misted with water (during misting and cooling periods). 😁

Best of luck with your hatch!
