Lesson learned the hard way.
Hopefully I learned what I need to, and if not please chime in and learn me more.
I got a sick duck from the feed store that they probably shouldn’t have sold me. Helped her get better, had a good couple of weeks, but she wasn’t growing. Then she got really sick again. I nursed her for a week, and thought she was getting better when she got her appetite back, but then she got horribly sick again, to the point where it was clear she was in pain and I needed to put her down. I didn’t figure this out until about 11pm, and I just can’t. And I couldn’t get hold of my friends that could. And it made for a horrible night where I truly felt I failed my beloved duck.

I now have three friend’s emergency numbers who I can call any time who do have the skills and capacity to put them down humanely. I think in the wild a predator would have taken care of her quickly on the first day. As my domesticated pet, that was my job.
