I have 4 Pekin duck girls, who are 19 weeks old. They live with five 19 week old hens (chickens) and a rooster that they all hatched with, plus four old hens (chickens).
This morning when letting everyone out, I noticed one of my ducks had blood around one of her eyes. She was acting mostly normal, but shaking her head occasionally. I was on my way out the door, so just made sure she had plenty of clean water to wash off in, and would check on her in a few hours when I got home.
This video is from me just checking on her. My ducks hate me and run (slowly) for their lives if I try to approach or pick them up, so I don't want to scare her unnecessarily to look closer if I don't *NEED* to. But can if called for.
We're guessing one of the hens pecked her in the night, OR because our 19 week old rooster has been mounting all of our ducks...not the hens, young or old, and maybe he was too aggressive with her?
I'd be less concerned if she weren't shaking her head like that.
How concerned should I be, what can I do to help her, any tips for a roo with a duck-prefernece? Not sure what to do, for fear of getting any first-aid spray in her eye. Any info or tips are appreciated! Thanks!
