What is the cause of the wet around the eye, on the feathers? This is the only one with a issue of this wet and dirty around the eye. She has access to fresh water daily for cleaning and putting her head in. I just don't know what causes this. Also is it fairly normal for eyes to be like this as well?

She is one that has some labored breathing at times and has some walking issues. She and another one are the smaller of the group of 4 pekins for my son's 4h project. I just want to make her better if its something that can be fixed.

Thanks

Seems to me she has an infection. Vet care would be best. If that is not an option, see if you can find some antibiotic opthalmic (eye) drops.

Other things to consider would be Veterycin eye spray, mild saline solution, and in any case if she is not already, get her on some poultry vitamins-electrolytes-probiotics right away, a couple of times a week.

I would get her into a lukewarm tub at least twice a day for observation and washing, also.

What kind of shelter do they have? Do they have a pool to swim in?

(I need to turn in now, plan to check back tomorrow)

She has had weekly bath tub swims, they are just being put outside in a bigger pen so will have a small swimming pool for swimming in. She has been in the house because we felt she and another duckling were in need of more attention than the others in the same pen.

I'd almost lean towards infection too. Now around here vets won't touch birds, unless it's to put it down. I wonder if polysporin for eyes would be safe to use?

If we have a horse with an issue(debris or catches on the fence) we bathe with a mild solution of salt water.

I doubt that there is a vet around me that would have a clue on what to do for ducks. Heck we have to haul our horses over 30 minutes away for vet care. They only deal in dogs and cats around me and I live in farm country. lol

I have some vertericyn wound and infection care spray. I will try that since it says its for eye infections.
