What do you use to feed your ducks?

I have a plastic hanging feeder inside my chicken coop for the chickens, but the ducks never ever go into the coop on their own, so I was going to put a feeder outside for them, any ideas?

They don't seem to know how to eat out of the typical plastic hanging feeder. Or maybe my ducks are just slow.

Do you have water near the feed? I have noticed mine like to slop up the food with water and make it mushy. That may play a part in it. Also, during the day, mine forage around on the ground finding anything that crawls, or walks.

And they generally eat a little bit at night. My feeder is just a bucket with holes in it along with a with plastic pot base under it to catch the feed.

I have a hanging food and waterer inside the coop, and I've never seen the ducks eat out of the feeder or drink out of that waterer, they eat the stuff the chicken drop under the feeder though, but they also will not go into the coop unless I put them into the coop. They have water outside, to swim and drink. But I'm afraid if they get hungry during the day they are not getting enough food with just bugs.

I'm sure that they are getting enough to eat. If they weren't, they'll eat the food at night.

As far as not going into the coop at night, I'm assuming you lock it up right? My ducks have their own house and I found that they don't go to it until long after my chickens have been to bed and locked up. That just may be a preference.

Can't help ya' with that other than just steady shooing them in-maybe they'll learn. Or maybe you could just give them a doghouse or some type of shelter outside of the coop to sleep in. Since your coop is fenced in, maybe that could be an option
