Hi, I have five white mallards but I don't know what gender they are. (Not that it's really really important, but I'm just curious.) I read that males and females sound different but they all sound the same to me. Some have curled tails but when it's hot out (as in now, it's summer) they all curl. I did not raise them from babies so they are wild, but I bring them feed every day and they come to me. Any tips on how to tell their gender by how they look? TIA

You would need to pick them up one at a time to listen to them talk. It's really hard to tell from a flock. I've never heard of a ducks feathers curling from heat, I would think that any with a curled tail are male. I couldn't tell the difference with my first set of 5 ducks I raised from ducklings. It was because they were all male, and they all sounded alike! I am not familiar with white mallards specifically, but I know with other white ducks, the tail curl is the only outward gender sign. Well, laying eggs is a pretty good gender sign :) Pick them up and let me know what you hear! Oh - and post a picture - they sound beautiful!
