Has anyone had problems with minks attacking your ducks? My ducks are fully fenced in at night and they were attacked; one died and one is badly injured. We are pretty sure it was a mink. Hoping that our other duck will make it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated about injured ducks or keeping minks out.

I am very sorry for your loss and hope your injured on pulls through, They are amazing what they can recover from. If you can tell us a little about the injury and provide pics that can help us help you, also here is a link on caring for a sick or injured birds

Now Mink can get through 1" holes in fencing in wood etc so about the only way to keep them out is with hard ware cloth half inch cover all hole larger than half in.

Welcome to BYC just sorry you joined under such sad circumstances.

Are you close to a creak or water?...Mink and Weasel usually love being close to running water sources...

He has bite marks on his head. Probably about 4 or 5 puncture wounds.

If they haven't gone into his brain just keep them clean and keep him where flies can't get to him. Make sure he stays hydrated and if he won't eat try making soup out of his feed he may take it that way.

Are their signs of brain damage that I can look for? He has puss coming out of wounds.

Puss or fluid? well most likely brain damage he would walk in circles or just not be able to walk very well. How is he acting? head tilting could be another sign, Is he eating and drinking at all? When did this happen maybe he is still in shock what are you using to clean his wounds. Be sure if you use peroxide you only use it 1X betadine is good to use.

It's a yellow thicker consistency. Usually he will move away from us but he just sits. He's walking around but seems to favor one side than the other. I have not seen him eat or drink yet. My husband is going to find him some ointment and use that. I washed the wounds out with a little bit of dawn and water.
