Found an egg laying in the grass while visiting Edisto Gardens in Orangeburg SC. Took it home and one of my old broody hens hatched it. Now wondering what it is. I have have ducks Pekings for many years (all hen hatched).wow have not been to the forum in so long every thing is different. so

That is so cute, I bet mama chicken was wondering how come junior or juniorette was in the water bowl. lol

Light bibs always make me think of Swedish, but I have no clue what kinds of ducks are at that park. What breeds did you see?

All I saw at the time were mallards but the egg was much too large for that breed. I did get a Swedish to raise with this duck and the Edisto duck is two weeks younger and bigger than the Swedish black and white.

Momma Sadie has raised ducks before, she is such a good mom. Here is an updated photo. This duck is as big as my Peking's and still not feathered in except on the chest. For some reason I can not post a good image code so I hope this link works.

I will guess it is a mallard/domestic cross, possibly mallard x Swedish, or perhaps Cayuga. Sweet photo! How's the baby doing?
