Hi, I’m all new to incubation and raising duckling. I’m a little worried about one of my duck eggs, it’s currently on day 7 of incubation, I started cancelling it at day 5 I know lots of people say don’t candel them all the time but it’s all very exciting and iv been very gentle. So I candled the egg day 5 and could start to see the veins and a little dot growing and could see the dot beating which I’m guessing was it’s heart, then candled again yesterday (day 6) veins were a lot more visible and spread out a lot more. By tonight ( day 7) it seems really weird, veins are still visible but there seems to be a clear bubble floating around the egg that hasn’t been there previously and it’s moving the veins as it passes through I’m worried this isn’t right and the chick might have died. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Well, if there's veins it's not dead. Can yoy get a picture? Are these shipped eggs? It probably is a detached air cell. At the far end do you see an air cell? I've hatched several hundred eggs and I've been incubating for 2 years, and I still candle every single day. I wouldn't persay reccomend it, but I like becoming familiar and getting to know each egg. Just like you 😉 as long as you're gentle and dont drop them or jostle them too much, it's fine.

Not that I know much about detached air cells but it looks like it sounds so it could be that? No they were local eggs. If it is detached Air cell does it mean it will die?

Yup, a detached air cell. I had a local egg that had one. It's more common in shipped eggs though. Do you have an egg carton you can put that egg in? If you have it pointy end down in a little carton type thing it will usually re-attach. It doesn't mean it's going to die. It just needs a little TLC. If you can get it to re-attach that would be perfect. If it doesn't, you might have to assist a little at hatch, but usually they hatch just fine.

Thanks for your help!! My incubator is one that has them sat upright Iv just had them tiled slightly and moving them alternative sides a few times a day, am I best to just sit it up straight in there and not turn it anymore? And hope it re-attaches.

Oh... ok. Yep it should be fine then. I would leave it turning. Hopefully it will secure itself. Keep me posted!

Thank you I’ll keep you updated, if it was to die would the veins disappear quite quickly? Can’t really see a little dot or anything in the middle, should I be by day 8, they veins are still there for the time being though

The veins decompose wothin a couple hours of death. So yes, if you see just sloshy stuff and no more veins it has died. You won't have any possible problems until it starts to hatch though. It should develop completely normal.

Perfect I feel a little bit better now thank you.
