Duck is acting very strange

Miss Lydia, I am really worried about that too. So far I haven't noticed him getting frisky with anyone. Plus whenever he gets too close to them they all leap up to the top roost. (It's about 4 feet off the ground, so he doesn't have a prayer to get up there!) But still I'm watching them very closely to make sure everyone is happy and healthy.

What a handsome boy! ditto Miss Lydia - you probably will have no problem, and good that the hens can fly to their roosts.

I agree that this winter you all and Howard can get to know each other better, and think about girl duckies in the spring. Actually, that may be the time that it may become a concern (his getting amorous).

And rather than raise babies, I'd like to toss in the idea that there are so many lovely abandoned Pekins who need homes after the Easter decorations are taken down and people realize they have real live ducks, not toys!

The rule of thumb is three ducks (female) per drake.

While ducks can live 10 years and more, the average age is more like three or four, due to predator losses. So watch out for that guy! They may be more susceptible to predators because they are ground nesters, among other reasons. Don't want you to lose that handsome drake.

Congratulations, by the way, for getting through Crisis #1. May those be few and far between.

Thanks for the pic.

Good to hear the girls can get up high and he is very cute, doesn't look over weight like alot of pekins do either so thats a plus. Yep you made it through hopefully the worst crisis and hopefully just enjoying each others company from now on ducks are a pleasure and can brighten the gloomiest day. Please keep us updated on how Howard is doing.
