Hello all!

My girls are pretty new to laying and not all of them are laying yet. I have at least one fawn/white Indian runner and one Cayuga laying. I know this, because I’ve caught them in camera laying. But I haven’t caught any others just yet!

Here’s where I’m confused. The Indian Runner, Almond, was my first to lay. She started laying just shy of 20 weeks. All my ducks are currently 22 weeks.

Today, I caught on camera Almond laying three eggs. One with a nice normal hard shell. Two with a weak, “bendable” shell. I also found a fairy egg when I went in their coop this morning with a thick hard shell but I’m not sure who laid it.

Should I be concerned for Almond? I don’t want her to be working in overdrive and just want her to be happy and healthy. Any advice would be great! Or if anyone has experience with this 😅

With how new she is to laying and the fact that she seems to have only done this once I would not be too concerned. The first little bit of them laying is generally when they lay wonky eggs. 3 eggs in one day is a lot but since she is new I would not be concerned. Now, if this continues and she does this more consistently then this is where I would start getting concerned.

Extra calcium is good to have on the side now that they are starting to lay. If they eat a lot of snails, that is a good source of calcium. Otherwise just oyster shells work.
