I have two pikin ducks, I think around 8-9 weeks old (Bill and Ted). Friday I got home and did all the normal stuff with them, while in their freshpool of water ted walked away and Bill tried to quack for her, and all that came out was what sounded like Bills voice was gone! Bill was is eating fine and drinking water but man did she or he sound bad! I did some research and I understand that this duck is a male..I think, because of his voice. I also read about ACV and gave it some last night. Saturday- All day slept and really didn't eat. He will eat the grass like crazy but wants nothing to really do with food except mealworms. Did try peas with coconut oil, didn't really care for it. Voice still sounds bad, I mean he has this little whisper which sounds like his normal tone, it's just when tries quack it sounds horrible. I was able to get a video but i can't get Bill to actually quack. Sunday is really no better with his voice.
Here are the ducks elimints - Michigan, hot (87), rainy and humid.
Free range all day with 22 other chickens, just the ducks are locked up at night.
Chickens were supposed to go to the other property and have not had there make shift pin cleaned since may. I will be cleaning this today.
I found out that the plants in the garden area are considered poisonous to chickens and ducks. Bind weed and English ivy- so I have them blocked off from that.
Thursday while locking them up the were playing with my shoelaces, completely untying them and trying eat them. I don't know which one almost swallowed one shoelace, but I pulled it out, I hope i didn't cause this duck to lose his voice because of my ignorance.
Also- they will not let me pick them up.....at all- so I can't really inspect his throat.
Any help or advise is greatly appreciated from this newbie!!!
Edit- I can't figure out why my video won't upload. I think because it is from my iPhone. Once I get it figured out I will upload the video....
