Duck Mating

I just got 2 new Rouen and Pekin mix ducks. The drake and the hen came together and I had a pekin hen in my original flock. Will my drake breed both hens or just the one that he came with?

He should breed both of your hens, but you might also want to look into getting another hen or 2; the drake might overbreed your hens since you only have 2, and I've heard they can breed hens to death; poor things.

I heard that too. So far he's been okay and not rough with them at all. But I haven't seen him breed any of them yet

Just try to stop him . I have two drakes and three hens and most of the time they are fine. I did separate the boys from the girls for a few days in the spring when their hormones were the highest and they were completely sex crazed.

My Drake had Two Hens and it was never an issue with over breeding...Depends on the Drake...If he is not gentle in his mating you might need more Hens...Just keep an eye on him....
