Duck nails too long?

Wrap them in a towel so they can’t freak out then lay them so you can work on their feet. Try it an see how it goes. Just know if you tried trimming and hit that quick they really bleed a lot. File would def be better.

What if I got a file and filed it down? Would that work I’m afraid of cutting it wrong or them getting scared and making it worse and they are inside as of now but moving outside soon and ones a welsh harlequin (male) and a saxony( make)
You could file them down, but that might be more stressful than cutting because it will take much longer.

Do you have a concrete slab (driveway, BY-patio or similar) available?
Letting the ducks run over a concrete surface once or twice a week will keep their nails shorter.
Just lure them in with some traits.
Of course any other hard, flat surface will do too, like flagstone. My ducks love to climb up and down the small flagstone marking between the veggie bed and the grassmud.

:goodpost:Good point! When ducks are kept outside with access to a hard surface this will keep their nails trimmed naturally.

For those that want to trim nails, check out this excellent nail and beak trimming article by @TwoCrows

It's about trimming chickens, but it can be applied to all Mallard derived ducks.
