Duck Nest

Do ducks need an area for a nest or do they just lay their eggs where ever? I want to make sure they have a nesting box if needed.

Some will use it, but mostly lay anywhere until they find the spot they like.

I keep a layer of straw on top of the shavings. That way I can just replace the straw a few times a week to clean up (I also fluff the shavings). My runners make nests with the straw (of course I leave the nest straw - it's clean).

Last year, their first, I used two wooden cheese boxes. They used them for months, then abandoned them.
