Good evening all,
I took my Daisy (almost 5 years old, crested silver appleyard)to the vet today because she wasn't acting like herself only to discover a large growth around the ovaries which is most likely ovarian cancer. Unfortunately its too late to do anything about it medically.
She hadn't been herself for a few days, acting very lethargic/not interested in life, and now won't eat... even her favorite treats (cucumber). She had lost a substantial amount of weight.
I feel the lack of food will kill her before the cancer. What do I do to encourage appetite? Do I force feed her??? Do I feed her baby food??
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you,

I would discuss it further with the vet, they should be able to aid you in how to handle this.

I have dealt with cancer in animals before but not ducks, i mean.. maybe that is why one died at some point but couldn't tell you for sure.

Sorry she's ill, that's never easy to deal with.

The vet suggested to keep her comfortable for now and give her all the favorite treats. I tried. She just won't eat... :(
Vet also prescribed anti inflammatory medication as she had some inflammation. Maybe this will help to get her comfortable but not encourage appetite.

If she's uncomfortable she may not eat, is she drinking okay? I have dealt with injured here and the main thing i worry about is drinking, eating comes 2nd yes important but often they turn off food in times of pain, or fright etc.

Keep offering and hopefully the medications you have been given will aid in a few days to make her more comfy.

Yes she's drinking well! I just feel horrible after seeing xrays and seeing how empty she is. No wonder she feels like crap. I would too....

Hello there. I am very sorry you're going through this. :hugs. What did the vet suggest?
Vet suggested to keep her comfortable, keep offering favorite food and treat with anti inflammatory medication, but there's nothing that can be done to fix her. I'm just concerned about her going through this on an empty stomach, because that will kill her before anything else will...

I would tube feed, so maybe call the vet and ask them if they could teach you how to tube feed.
